Original PANTERA Singer TERRY GLAZE 'Couldn't Believe' That DIMEBAG Was Dead

Terrence Lee "Terry" Glaze, the original voice of PANTERA, later of LORD TRACY and now a member of RAISED BY GODS, was interviewed on a recent edition of "The Classic Metal Show", which is heard live on Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. EST at TheClassicMetalShow.com. Glaze was the frontman of PANTERA during the band's early'-'80s "party metal" phase and sang on the band's first three albums. After leaving PANTERA, Glaze formed the band LORD TRACY.

Asked if he still keeps in touch with any of the other former members of PANTERA, Terry said: "Vince [drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott] came out to see me play in Dallas. It was right a couple of months before Darrell [Abbott, a.k.a. Dimebag, Vinnie Paul's brother and PANTERA guitarist] was killed. That night, they had just come back from Europe doing a DAMAGEPLAN [promo tour]. And they came back. Vince shows up at Curtain Club. We hung out afterwards. He was, like, 'Man, Darrell's asleep,' whatever. I really had a feeling like we were gonna get together and maybe make some music again sometime. It was just really cool that he came out. And then it wasn't to be. I still talk to Rex [Brown, PANTERA bassist] a couple of times a year; he'll give me a call or text me when something's going on. But I have not spoken to Vince since Darrell's funeral. I've reached out a couple of times, [but] it just hasn't happened. I'd love to catch up with him, but it just hasn't happened yet."

Glaze also talked about attending Dimebag's funeral in December 2004, just days after the guitarist was killed while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag was shot onstage by Nathan Gale. He was 38 years old.

"Darrell's buried in the cemetery where my grandparents are buried and where my father-in-law's buried. So I was at Darrell's gravesite… I don't know… a month ago," Terry recalled. "'Cause every time I go to town, I stop by and try to pay my respects to my family and then I always walk over there to Darrell's site."

He continued: "The thing I remember… First off, everyone was hammered at the funeral. There was a service during the day at the cemetery, and then there was that kind of celebration at the concert hall thing that night. But what I remember is that it was so unbelievable, because Darrell's body was laying there in a KISS casket or something… I can't remember. He looked beautiful. He just looked like he was asleep. It just did not… I couldn't believe it, you know? And then it wasn't until the next day, I went back the cemetery, to the actual gravesite, and it wasn't until I saw the dirt that it really kind of sunk in that this is happening. I don't know… I couldn't believe it."

Terry also marveled at the fact that Dimebag is celebrated by metal fans the world over more than twelve years after the guitarist's untimely death. "It's incredible," he said. "It's a testament to his talent and his personality that, man, everybody's still talking. It seems like it wasn't that long ago, but, you know, it's been a couple of years. It blows my mind."
